United States intelligence officers recently published a report stating that the Russians and Chinese are widely spying on American corporations over the Internet, stealing trade secrets which could be harmful to America’s security and prosperity. Russia and China both view themselves as competitors of the United States and are considered as among the most aggressive collectors of American economic information and technology. The report also points out the four major areas of interests to international spies namely military technologies, civilian technologies, business information about resources, and communications technology. The online community provides an opportunity for the said nations to perform economic espionage; this is according to an annual report released by the Congress.

Anaheim- A local private detective recently reunited two long lost lovers that have been separated through time. Private investigators are always booked with marital surveillances and lost love during February 14, Valentine’s Day. A private investigator recently reunited two lovers who got separated by their parents during their high school years because of a difference in their beliefs. She was Catholic and her lover was Jewish. Private investigators often find themselves playing cupid as they bring people together, instead of breaking relationships apart. So far, most private investigators receive a good number of requests each year for locating ex lovers, family members, relatives and friends.

Thomas Reese, 38, was recently charged with unlawful use of a device, intercepting emails, stalking and the criminal use of a communication facility. Last December, a woman reported that she suspects her ex fiancé, Reese; put a tracking device on her PC to track her emails. A forensic examination of the PC showed that Reese bought tracing software which was downloaded in the woman’s computer. She claimed that Reese was able to view her emails despite the change of passwords. Today, Reese is serving his imprisonment sentence at the local county jail.

Orange County-As technological innovations are used in crime fighting, the question raised by most privacy groups is whether ‘where you draw the line’ when it comes to the use of these devices without invasion of privacy. The United States Supreme Court witnessed for the first time arguments about the case between US versus Antoine Jones. The police enforcers installed a GPS device on Jones, a suspected drug dealer. They tracked Jones using the information generated by the GPS device. In the end, the court ruled out the side of privacy as the evidence presented against the suspects were stronger compared to the privacy issues.

New York, November 7, 2011- M&T Bank Corporation has recently developed a solution for the ATM skimming problem. This New York based bank recently announced the release of the blocker ATM device, an anti skimming solution that avoids ATM theft. M&T has already installed around 400 devices of its more than 2000 ATMs. The blocker is a protective device that features steel coated plates positioned around the ATM’s card reader, preventing thefts from attaching artificial readers on the machine’s fascia. More than $350,000 is lost every day because of skimming all over the world. These anti skimming devices are indeed efficient ways for banks to avoid monetary losses daily.

Sports equipment and popular shoe brand Adidas took some of its sites offline after an alleged security breach last November 3, 2011. But the company has initially claimed that there is no evidence of any customer information being stolen. Adidas took down all the websites that were affected including micoach.com, adidas.com, reebok.com, adidas-group.com and other ecommerce sites for a comprehensive forensic review. Since the attack, the company has placed several security measures to secure online data and ensure the welfare of their customers. Although the preliminary investigation didn’t find any evidence of data breach, the firm still believes that these hackers were good at covering their activities.

San Francisco, November 3, 2011- When you are planning to hire a private investigator in California, make sure you get a professional with at least three years experience in the industry or someone with a law enforcement background. But authorities have discovered that this isn’t exactly what you always get. California’s private investigator trade group is currently cracking down on unlicensed detectives using undercover schemes. There are others who use fake names and some even have criminal backgrounds in the past. Licensed investigators in California are required by law to have a picture identification card. There is no assurance that you’ll get licensed detectives even on Craigslist. Authorities warned consumers to not deal with detectives who can’t show you a license.

Do you have an unfaithful partner? A recent controversial site was currently launched this November that will let the entire online community know about potential cheaters and adulterers. There were a number of people from the Tri-State that were mentioned in the site. Developed by James Gibney, Cheaterville.com is a website that alerts people from scorned spouses and jilted lovers, telling people to stay away from mentioned individuals. The site also includes several images of the cheating partner, stories, comments and so much more. The founder himself was a former military officer who had a wife who cheated on him while he was on temporary assignment overseas.

A recent report by NBC Channel 3 in Ohio found that consumers should run a background check on potential caregivers who will be working from their homes. After several reports of theft by caregivers and other issues, authorities advised household owners to hire a private investigator to do a quick background check on individuals coming to their homes. Convicted felons are never allowed to work as home health providers, and there are more than a hundred criminal offences that should be looked into as well. The elderly population in California, one of the states which currently do not regulate stay in caregivers, may suffer abuse and theft from lack of regulation and public measures.
